Business communities seen as key pillar linking Vietnamese and Chinese economies

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called on the business communities of Vietnam and China to continue serving as a bridge and a key pillar linking the two economies and nations, contributing to shared interests, development, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the Vietnam–China Business Forum held on the afternoon of June 24 in Tianjin as part of his working visit to China and participation in the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum (WEF Tianjin 2025).

The forum, focused on cooperation in infrastructure development, modern financial services, and enhancing production capacity based on green energy, smart manufacturing, and innovation, gathered Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, ministers and senior officials of Vietnamese ministries, localities, ambassadors, and a large number of businesses from both countries.

At the forum, participants reviewed Vietnam–China economic cooperation and introduced each side’s potential and investment needs. Economic ties were highlighted as a key pillar of the bilateral relationship, having maintained steady growth.

In 2024, Vietnam remained China's largest trading partner within ASEAN and its fourth-largest partner globally, with two-way trade reaching US$205.2 billion, up 19.3% from 2023. In the first five months of 2025, trade volume hit US$92.9 billion, an 18.7% year-on-year increase.

As of the end of 2024, China ranked sixth among 148 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, with 5,111 valid FDI projects totaling US$30.83 billion in registered capital. Chinese investors have invested in 19 out of 21 FDI sectors and in 55 of Vietnam’s 63 provinces and cities. In 2024, Vietnam welcomed 3.74 million Chinese visitors, ranking second and accounting for 21.26% of total international arrivals.

Chinese businesses view Vietnam as one of the region’s most dynamic and fast-growing economies, offering a favorable investment environment. Many expressed interest in expanding investment in infrastructure, high-tech industries, energy, particularly electricity, and finance, including the development of international financial centers.

Vietnamese enterprises, for their part, hoped that with the foundation of bilateral relations, China’s extensive experience in Vietnam, and the strength of Chinese companies, cooperation would expand, particularly in financing, technology transfer, and sharing smart governance solutions.

In his speech at the forum, PM Pham Minh Chinh expressed admiration for China’s achievements in national development and governance, noting its successful realization of the first centenary goal and strong momentum toward the second. He lauded China’s progress in infrastructure, science, technology, and innovation, calling the country a major global player in these fields.

Highlighting the long-standing friendship and shared history between Vietnam and China, including milestones in President Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary career and the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the PM stressed that business cooperation contributes not only to economic ties but also to the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and the Vietnam–China community with a shared future.

Amid global uncertainty, PM Chinh said that challenges outweigh opportunities, laying stress on the need for unity, confidence, and readiness to turn difficulties into opportunities for growth. He underlined the importance of maintaining peace, stability, and development in the region and beyond.

Reviewing Vietnam’s development path, he noted that after 80 years of independence and nearly 40 years of renovation, the country has achieved significant progress, thanks in part to cooperation with and support from China and Chinese businesses.

Vietnam is entering a new development phase marked by prosperity and strength, he said. The Vietnamese Party and State have identified a "strategic quartet" of priorities to realize their centenary goals, including restructuring political institutions and carrying out two-tier local government model.

During the recent past, the Vietnamese government has focused on three strategic breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure, and human resources, aiming for streamlined regulations, seamless infrastructure, and smart governance, all designed to support business activities.

PM Chinh said the top leaders of both Parties and States have agreed to build a Vietnam–China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, with "six greater" goals, including deeper and more substantive cooperation. Economic, trade and investment ties are a bright spot in bilateral relations, with businesses serving as a pillar connecting the two economies.

He affirmed that the space and potential for economic cooperation between Vietnam and China remain vast, particularly in science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, green transition, and the circular economy all areas where cooperation can expand without limits. He called on businesses to deepen cooperation based on harmonoius benefits and shared risks.

With today’s strong political ties, he expressed confidence that business partnerships would grow more smoothly, generating greater added value. The success of Chinese enterprises in Vietnam, he said, would also be a success for Vietnam, helping to strengthen the "comrades and brothers" friendship between the two countries.

At the forum, witnessed by PM Pham Minh Chinh and other delegates, Vietnamese and Chinese businesses and corporations exchanged nine cooperation and investment documents across areas such as energy, railways, information technology, telecommunications, real estate, transportation, and imports-exports.
