Building regional architecture highlighted at Indian Ocean Conference
VOV.VN -Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh underlined the significance of building regional architecture at the third Indian Ocean Conference which concluded in Hanoi on August 28, with nearly 300 delegates from 40 countries and territories in attendance.
In his remarks, Minh emphasized the importance of connecting the Indian Ocean with the Pacific Ocean and the desire for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region has become stronger given a number of challenges.
He underscored the principle of building an inclusive, rule-based regional framework with the central role of ASEAN on the basis of respect for independence and sovereignty, mutual trust, and win-win benefits.
At the two-day conference, delegates also shared their viewpoints on opportunities, challenges, and a vision for the building of regional security architecture and raised concern over regional security matters, including marine ones.
They stressed the importance of respect for international law without use of force to settle disputes through peaceful measures.
Representatives from developing countries proposed creating an equal competitive playground and called on nations to give mutual respect and mutual support to promote regional peace, security, cooperation, and stability.
The event themed “Building Regional Architecture” also reached a common perception of building a region of peace, stability, and prosperity.
