Book "Nothing is Impossible: America’s reconciliation with Vietnam" debuts

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Ha Kim Ngoc attended the online launch of a book by former US Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius on August 10 following an invitation from the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (AmCham).

Featuring a foreword writing by former Secretary of State John Kerry, the book “Nothing Is Impossible: America’s reconciliation with Vietnam” tells an inspiring story of how international diplomacy can be used to create a better world.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Ngoc warmly congratulated former Ambassador Osius, who closely identified himself with the country and Vietnamese people during his highly successful working term in the nation from 2014 to 2017.

The Vietnamese diplomat went on to express his thanks and appreciation for Osius' great contributions to making great strides in the mutual relations, especially making an important contribution to the success of the historic visit to the US by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong back in 2015.

Osius also became the first US Ambassador to Vietnam to be honoured with the Friendship Order by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Upon detailing the book written by the former US diplomat, Ambassador Ngoc described it as a very valuable reference for researchers, historians, scholars, students, and those who are directly involved in joint ties.

The primary message of the book is about the meaning and importance of building mutual trust and respect, especially in terms of respecting each other's political institutions, thereby promoting reconciliation and co-operation between two peoples, Ambassador Ngoc said.

The local diplomat also shared the author's point of view that jointly supporting and encouraging the Vietnamese community in the US, especially the young generation, can turn their heart towards the homeland. This in turn can serve to promote the spirit of reconciliation and will help to strengthen the foundation for long-term relations.

Respecting the sincere good will that former Ambassador Osius gave to the nation, Ambassador Ngoc expressed strong belief in the bright future of the partnership, adding hope that it will feature good friends who are always devoted and wholeheartedly support the country as the former US diplomat did.

To mark the occasion, Ambassador Ngoc also congratulated Osius for being elected to the role of chairman and CEO of the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), an important position he will soon officially assume.

The local diplomat outlined his hopes that, Osius will make more positive contributions to promoting economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the US with Vietnam and ASEAN in his new role.

Ambassador Ngoc therefore thanked the valuable and practical contributions of the US business community and wished that US friends continue to accompany, support, and actively co-operate as a way of helping the country overcome the COVID-19 pandemic. Moving forward, the nation hopes to move towards sustainable economic recovery, along with firm participation in the global value and supply chains.
