Biden pays tribute to late Senator John McCain at Hanoi memorial
VOV.VN - US President Joe Biden laid a wreath at the monument to late Senator John McCain on Thanh Nien street in Tay Ho district of Hanoi on the afternoon of September 11 as part of his activities taking place during the State visit to Vietnam.
Senator John McCain had been a contributor to the normalisation of relations between Vietnam and the US.
Accompanying President Biden at the memorial located along the lake next to Thanh Nien street was Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Change John Kerry. This also marked the final activity of President Biden during his visit before leaving the country.
During more than 23 hours in the Vietnamese capital, President Biden took part in many important activities. At the meeting between Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Biden on the afternoon of September 10 immediately after the official welcoming ceremony, Vietnam and the US decided to establish a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, after 10 years of maintaining their comprehensive partnership.
On the afternoon of September 11, President Vo Van Thuong received President Biden and hosted a state banquet.
Furthermore, President Biden held meetings alongside Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, as well as attending the Vietnam - US Investment & Innovation Summit.
