The meeting, the second of its kind since the beginning of this year, saw Ambassador Manh provide updates for participants on the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) prevention and control measures being taken in Vietnam, in addition to activities taken by the country this year since assuming the role as the ASEAN Chair.

The Vietnamese diplomat also made a number of proposals aimed at boosting co-ordination with Russian partners within the AMC framework.

The ambassadors of ASEAN member states subsequently expressed their appreciation for the nation’s role and efforts in leading the implementation of the grouping’s agenda for the year, especially in regard to the successful organisation of the 36th ASEAN Summit in an online format amid complicated developments relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

They agreed that the unprecedented scale of the COVID-19 pandemic has had huge impact on people’s health and the global healthcare system, whilst simultaneously causing great economic losses for all countries in general, with ASEAN being particularly hard hit by events.

Moreover, ASEAN diplomats expressed their appreciation for efforts made by the Russian administration to control the disease and support diplomatic representative offices of various ASEAN countries.

The ambassador also consented to hold a ceremony in celebration of the ASEAN Day, which falls on August 8 annually, in an online format.
