Angola hails Vietnam as inspiring development model

Manuel Domingos Augusto, Politburo member and Secretary in charge of external relations of the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) Central Committee, has described Vietnam as an outstanding development model in the international arena, stressing that its remarkable progress serves as a powerful source of inspiration for Angola.

Talking to the Vietnam News Agency’s correspondents in Africa ahead of Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong’s state visit to Angola from August 6 to 9, Augusto emphasised the strong ties between the two countries, especially in education, construction, and healthcare, showing his hope for new and deeper cooperation in the future.

The upcoming visit by the Vietnamese State President offers a vital chance for the two sides to expand cooperation into areas such as mining, oil, and especially agriculture, he said.

Angola highly values Vietnam’s technological expertise and experience, particularly in coffee production, Augusto stated, stressing that as one of the world’s top coffee producers, Vietnam could help Angola regain its former status as one of the largest coffee producers in Africa and the globe.

Augusto revealed that during his visit to Vietnam last year, the two sides held discussions on this matter, and his country now hopes President Cuong’s trip will lay the foundation for new agreements and concrete cooperation programmes based on their economic potential.

He noted that his country seeks to boost investment in Vietnam to build a balanced and sustainable relationship.

Regarding the Vietnamese community in Angola, the MPLA leader described it as a valued community since the early days of Angola’s independence, expressing his belief that the community will grow stronger with new cooperation agreements.

He expressed deep admiration for Vietnam, saying that many Angolan leaders have regarded Vietnam as an important destination for learning and cooperation following their visits to the Southeast Asian nation.
