ADGSOM meeting in Vietnam promotes policy coordination and digital cooperation

VOV.VN - The 6th ASEAN Digital Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADGSOM) was held in Hanoi from January 12 to 14, bringing together heads of delegation and representatives from agencies in charge of information technology, telecommunications and digital transformation from the 11 ASEAN member states, the ASEAN Secretariat, and partner organizations.

ADGSOM is ASEAN’s senior officials-level cooperation mechanism in the digital field. It coordinates the review and preparation of content for the ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting (ADGMIN), while monitoring and accelerating the implementation of regional digital cooperation programmes and initiatives.

According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, in fulfilling its responsibilities as an ASEAN member, Vietnam will host and chair the 6th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting in 2026, thereby further reaffirming Vietnam’s proactive and responsible role in regional digital cooperation.

At the meeting, heads of delegation exchanged views and provided updates on priority cooperation areas, with a focus on strengthening coordination and harmonization of digital policies among ASEAN member states; developing regional frameworks, principles and guidelines with reference to international practices; narrowing the digital divide within ASEAN; boosting innovation and the application of emerging technologies; enhancing the safety, security and resilience of ASEAN’s digital space; and developing digital human resources and skills, particularly for youth and the young workforce.

Within the framework of the meeting, sessions of the Joint Working Groups and the Governing Council were held to review the implementation of technical cooperation activities and discuss proposals and initiatives for the next phase.

A key focus was the review of the ASEAN Digital Masterplan (ADM) 2025, which noted positive progress in realizing the vision of a shared regional digital ecosystem and provided a basis for formulating the ADM for 2026-2030, aimed at ensuring connectivity, coherence and sustainability in regional digital initiatives.

The meeting also discussed and agreed on technical matters, documents and key recommendations to be submitted to the ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting for consideration, thus contributing to consistency and effectiveness in ministerial-level decision-making. The outcomes and recommendations of the 6th ADGSOM will be consolidated and submitted to the 6th ADGMIN for review and decisions on future directions of ASEAN’s digital agenda.

ADGSOM also held sessions with ASEAN Dialogue Partners in the digital field to review cooperation progress and discuss future directions, underscoring the importance of coordination and complementarity between ASEAN initiatives and those of its partners, in line with ASEAN’s priorities in digital development.
