Vietnam assumes rotating Chairmanship of ASEAN Committee in Washington
VOV.VN - Vietnam on August 29 formally took over the rotating Chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Washington (ACW) from Thailand.

The handover ceremony was attended by representatives of ASEAN member states, marking a new phase in the bloc’s activities in the United States.
In its role as ACW Chair over the next four months, Vietnam will preside over a number of joint activities to promote cooperation and mutual understanding with the United States.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen Quoc Dung expressed thanks to the Thai Ambassador and Embassy for coordinating ASEAN’s work over the past four months, and appreciated Thailand’s organization of a number of notable activities, especially the celebration of ASEAN Day on August 8.
Ambassador Dung affirmed that he would make every effort to maintain the momentum of ACW operations in the next four months and expand practical connections with partners.

Regarding plans for the coming period, the Vietnamese diplomat said Vietnam has prepared a number of specific programs and will gradually share more details as new updates become available.
In September, activities will include the national day celebrations of Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam, a series of events at the United Nations General Assembly, and welcoming two new Ambassadors of Laos and Indonesia.
In October, ACW is expected to hold a ceremony welcoming Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN and an event on artificial intelligence co-hosted with the Malaysian Embassy. In November, a meeting is scheduled with US Secretary of Transportation and NASA Administrator Sean Duffy. In December, a joint cultural promotion activity will be held with the participation of all ASEAN member states in Washington.
Concluding his remarks, Ambassador Dung expressed his wish to continue receiving cooperation from ASEAN member states during Vietnam’s ACW Chairmanship. The handover ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Chair’s gavel and the ASEAN flag, followed by a networking session with representatives of ASEAN embassies in Washington and local partners.
