VOV.VN - The National Assembly (NA) approved a resolution on dismissing Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc from his post, with 446 out of 452 NA deputies voting for the approval of the legislation, accounting for 92.92% of the total.

Lawmakers participating at the ongoing session of the 14th legislature on the morning of April 2 continued their discussions on personnel work, according to a report by the NA Standing Committee detailing the results of group talks on the dismissal of PM Phuc from his post, with secret ballots being cast on the issue.

Following the counting results were released, NA Secretary-General Nguyen Hanh Phuc announced in a draft Resolution on the dismissal of the PM’s position.

On behalf of the NA, new NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue presented flowers and thanked PM Phuc for his remarkable contributions to national development during his time in office.

This comes after Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong submitted the relief of PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc to the National Assembly on April 1, with the issue later debated among various groups.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc was born on July 20, 1954, and was a Politburo member in the 11th, 12th, and 13th tenures; a member of the Party Central Committee in the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th tenures; and an NA deputy in the 11th, 13th, and 14th tenures.

Most notably, he served a stint as the PM for the 2011 to 2016 tenure from April, 2011, to July, 2016. He was subsequently elected once more to this post for the 2016 to 2021 tenure during the first session of the 14th parliament.

The NA Standing Committee presented to the NA a proposal on relieving Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong from the post of State President.

In the afternoon the NA Standing Committee are set to report the results of the group discussions, whilst also providing an explanation and a full acquisition of NA deputies’ opinions on relieving the State President. Lawmakers will then cast secret ballots to relieve the State President.

Once the voting results are announced, the NA will then debate and vote on a resolution regarding relieving the State President.

The NA Standing Committee is also poised to present a nomination list to the NA in order to elect the State President, with NA deputies to discuss in groups the candidacy for the presidential post.
