126th Philippines Independence Day marked in HCM City

The Philippine Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City on June 14 held a ceremony to mark the country’s 126th Independence Day (June 12, 1898 – 2024) and the 48th anniversary of its diplomatic relations with Vietnam (June 12, 1976 – 2024).

In her remarks at the event, Vice Chairwoman of the HCM City People’s Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy said with bilateral ties upgraded to strategic partnership in 2015, Vietnam and the Philippines have reaped fruitful cooperation outcomes ranging from politics and economy to people-to-people exchange, bringing practical benefits for their citizens and contributing to regional peace, stability, cooperation, and development.

The southern economic hub has been making efforts to step up the relationship with the Philippines and its localities in the arenas of economy, innovation, and people-to-people exchange, she affirmed.

Hoping that the ties shared between his country and Vietnam in general and the city in particular would thrive, Philippine Ambassador Meynardo Montealegre thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and the municipal authority for creating favourable conditions for Filipinos doing business in the city.

Honorary Consul General Le Thi Phung talked about the Philippines’ progress following its independence, highlighting that the economy is forecast to be the 16th biggest in the world in 2050.

She said the Vietnam-Philippines friendship and partnership have grown soundly, with political trust and bilateral collaboration consolidated through talks, interactions, and delegation exchanges between their high-ranking leaders.
