Quang Nam Festival promotes cultural heritage

(VOV) - The fifth Quang Nam Heritage Festival, scheduled for June 21–26, will honour local and national cultural values with the ultimate goal of boosting tourism development.

International delegates from ASEAN countries, Japan, and the Republic of Korea have registered to join the event, said Tran Minh Ca, Vice Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee at a press briefing in Hanoi on May 7.

Ca said the festival will also celebrate ASEAN member nation cultural heritage examples.

Hoi An City and the My Son relic site will host the festival’s major events, marking the 10thanniversary of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Major activities will include an exhibition, entitled “Vietnam-ASEAN Cultural Heritage Space”, the 3rd International Choir Festival, and the 2013 Miss Ethnic Vietnam pageant.

In addition, there will be an art festival for Vietnamese ethnic minority groups, a Cham cultural festival, a reenactment of a typical early 20th century night in Hoi An’s ancient town, and a showcase of 500 ancient lanterns and antiques.

The organising board will also announce several local specialty-related national record attempts, such as Be Thui Cau Mong (barbecue veal) and My Quang (Quang noodles).

Quang Nam will use the festival to debut a range of tourism products and services spanning tours of legendary Ho Chi Minh trail battlefields, visits to traditional brocade weaving villages, firsthand insights into the lives of the Co Tu ethnic minority people, and experiences of Cu Lao Cham (Cham Islets).
