Youth form human flag in celebration of blood drive

VOV.VN - It was a miraculous sight when 2,000 youth gathered at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi to form the shape of the national flag at the closing ceremony for the Red Journey 2016 blood drive.

Speaking at the ceremony on July 31, Nguyen Anh Tri, director of the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion commended the month-long efforts of the youth volunteers and organizers.

This year, he said, the blood drive sets a new record collecting right at 20,000 units and distributing information on congenital blood disorders directly to an estimated 500,000 people.

The theme of the celebration is the national red flag with yellow star symbolizing the heart and bloodstream of Vietnam.

Throughout the month of July, youth connected hearts and the blood of tens of thousands across the country, said Prof Tri, including with many ethnic groups and people of differing religions.

In the closing moments, all the volunteers stand silently with their hands over their hearts in reverence of the posting of the flag.

After the conclusion of the program, volunteers dance in the streets and join hands.

By tomorrow, they will be on the road back home with a heart full of memories that will last a lifetime.
