Torrential rain kills three, causes property losses in Ha Giang
VOV.VN - Strong winds and heavy rain in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang have killed three people and damaged properties.
According to local authority, the victims are identified as Ly Chan Ho, 27, and his son Ly Hung Thinh from Tân Thuong Hamlet, Nam Ty Commune, Hoang Su Phi District.
They were swept away by floods. After several hours of searching, authorities recovered their bodies.
The third victim is a 42-year-old woman named Lo Thi Cho, who lost her life in a landslide caused by heavy rainfall.
The rainwater levels measured from 19:00 on June 9 to 9:00 on June 10 in Thuong Son commune of Vi Xuyen district was 320mm while it was 279mm in Quang Ngan commune.
According to preliminary statistics, 350 houses are submerged in Ha Giang City, 4 houses are inundated in Hoang Su Phi district while three are totally collapsed in Xin Man and Vi Xuyen districts. Moreover, 0.12 hectares of rice fields are damaged by the landslips in Ta Su Choong commune, while flooding also submerges dozens of fields of crops in Ha Giang City.
Many livestock farms are hit and countless chickens and birds are killed in poultry holdings.
In two communes of Thuan Hoa and Thanh Thuy in Vi Xuyen District, two local bridges are washed away by the floods.
Major roads from Ha Giang City to Dong Van and Meo Vac districts are cut off, leaving some tourists and local residents stranded in the Meo Vac District.
Initial damage is estimated at nearly VND19.5 billion (US$769,000).
