This year's International Day of Yoga (June 21) is set to be celebrated in more than 35 provinces and cities across Vietnam, including prominent locations such as Fansipan Mt. peak in Lao Cai and Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi.

The UN General Assembly on December 11, 2014 adopted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal to observe June 21 as International Day of Yoga to recognise the health benefits of yoga for people all over the world.

International Day of Yoga has been since celebrated worldwide annually, attracting the participation of enthusiasts from all social strata. Vietnam is an important partner for India in promoting and celebrating International Yoga Day.

Addressing the 2023 performance in Hanoi, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeeep Arya says that yoga is a 5,000-year-old tradition of India that serves to combine physical, mental, and spiritual activities in order to achieve harmony among the body, mind, and nature. He also encourages all people to try practicing yoga every day to enjoy its real benefits.

According to the Ambassador, International Yoga Day this year is themed: Yoga for world as one family, originating from the old Indian scriptures “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”.

Yoga has since been proven to improve both physical and mental wellbeing.

Some art performances put on in honour of the day spread public awareness about the health benefits associated with yoga.

The 2023 performance at Hoan Kiem lake has attracted members of numerous yoga clubs from neighbouring localities, including Bac Giang, Phu Tho, and Thanh Hoa.
