Long Thanh International Airport taking shape in Southern Vietnam
VOV.VN - Phase 1 of Long Thanh International Airport, the newest and largest in Vietnam, is expected to be substantially completed, meeting all operational standards for technical flights before December 19, paving the way for commercial operation in the first half of 2026.
The airport is expected to play a pivotal role in connecting Vietnam to international markets, supporting tourism, trade, and logistics development.
These days,thousands of engineers and workers at Long Thanh International Airport are working tirelessly to complete construction ahead of the airport’s planned opening for its first flight on December 19
The centerpiece of the site is the passenger terminal - a lotus-inspired design seen from above.
According to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), in the terminal area, there are now about 14,000 engineers, experts, workers working the whole days, supported by over 3,000 pieces of equipment.
The fire prevention, electrical, and drainage systems have entered their final stage of installation in preparation for the airport’s upcoming technical flights.
All major works are set to be finished ahead of December 19.

At the glass installation area, workers are racing to complete the final components, ensuring they meet international aviation technical standards.
Workers have been mobilized across the construction site to expedite the completion of Phase 1.
All hands are moving swiftly to keep the project on track.
Runway 1 has been completed and certified for operation, while the western aircraft parking area is expected to be finished before December 19, five months ahead of schedule.
Runway 2 is scheduled to become operational in June 2026.
The underground fuel supply system, which demands high technical standards, is expected to be completed by December 2025, ahead of a test run scheduled for March 2026 - three months earlier than planned.
Long Thanh is projected to significantly reduce pressure on Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, which has been operating beyond capacity for years.
