Crowds of people depart Ho Chi Minh City before the start of social distancing measures on July 9. The number of vehicles sees a sharp increase at the gateways to the west of the city, resulting in prolonged spells of congestion. Long queues form in Cu Chi district at the gateway to Duc Hoa district in Long An province from early in the morning on July 8. The traffic jam stretches for several kilometres and lasts for many hours. A similar situation occurs at a seven-metre stretch of road in Binh Chanh district of Ho Chi Minh City which neighbours Ben Luc district in Long An province. Locals must present certificates showing a negative COVID-19 test result in order to travel to Long An province. Some drivers are forced to depart the gateway due to not having the correct certificate of negative COVID-19 tests. Security forces are busy throughout the day as more and more people seek ways to move to neighbouring localities before Ho Chi Minh City’s authorities carry out social distancing measures. Crowds pack national road 1A leading to provinces to the west of the southern metropolis. Some people are distraught as they don’t have the correct certificates that show a negative COVID-19 test and therefore can’t pass any checkpoints. Traffic congestion lingers until the afternoon of July 8. VOV Mời quý độc giả theo dõi VOV.VN trên
