Ka Don church – A sacred space of wood and light in the heart of Lam Dong

Ka Don church, located in Krang Go 2 village, 40km from downtown Da Lat, is primarily built from locally sourced pine wood, combined with glass, steel, and red tile roofing.

As no paint or ornate decorations are used, the natural texture and colour of the wood are preserved, showcasing raw beauty and timeless elegance.

This church, inauguraed in 2014, has won many architectural awards such as the European Prize for Sacred Architecture in 2011, and the International Prize for Sacred Architecture in 2016.

Its design draws from the stilt houses of the Churu ethnic group, indigenous to the Central Highlands of Vietnam.

Pine wood is used in every interior structure of the church, ranging from walls, ceilings, partitions to tables and chairs.

The four sides of the church are made of pine wood, whilst the roof is covered with red clay tiles, thereby giving it a rustic and unique look.
