Vietnamese PM Chinh hosts a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on January 8 to welcome the Lao leader.

The visit takes place at a time when the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive co-operation ties between both sides have been firmly consolidated and deepened in all fields. In the photo, the two PMs review the guard of honour in Hanoi.

After the ceremony, both leaders hold talks on future co-operation. The pair then witness the signing and exchanging of numerous co-operation documents in the fields of security, borders, economics, banking, education, health care, and electricity generation.

The two Government leaders then launch the Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022, with numerous activities set to be held throughout the year.

PM Chinh (R) and Laos PM Viphavanh host a press briefing on the results of their talks. At the event PM Chinh announces that Vietnam will donate one million COVID-19 vaccine doses to Laos to help the neighbouring country combat the spread of the virus.

Receiving Lao PM Viphavanh, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong (R) described his guest’s official visit as a demonstration of the close-knit and special ties between both sides.

The same day sees the Lao PM meet with State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who suggests the two sides continue promoting their strong political ties and unleashing their potential and advantages to implement specific co-operation plans.

Both leaders indicate that they are pleased to see the sustainable growth of the comprehensive partnership and great friendship between the two countries, whilst highly valuing each other’s support in fighting COVID-19.

The Lao PM also meets with Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue (R) in Hanoi.

The leaders share the view that the two parliaments should continue close coordination to monitor and facilitate the effective implementation of their countries’ agreements, while further increasing consultation and sharing experience in legislative affairs.

PM Chinh and his Lao counterpart PM Viphavanh co-chair the 44th session of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee for Bilateral Cooperation on January 10.

During the meeting, the two sides agree on the implementation of a bilateral co-operation plan from the beginning of the year, with a view to bolstering co-operation across multiple fields such as politics, foreign affairs, security and defence, investment, and trade.

The Vietnamese Government chief says the two countries must work closely together for the cause of greater economic development. He recommends that their respective ministries, sectors, localities, and enterprises enhance their connectivity of mutual benefits and shared risks within the Vietnam-Laos, Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia cooperation programmes, as well as in the region and the world.

Vietnam is currently the third largest investor in Laos. PM Viphavanh expresses his wish that Vietnam would become the second or first largest investor in the Lao market in the time to come.
