HCM City field hospital reopens amid Omicron threat

A total of 45 doctors from the HCM City Dermatology Hospital are assigned to work for field hospital No. 12, which has resumed operations amid the continued fight against the pandemic.

The hospital has so far offered treatment to over 13,000 positive COVID-19 patients in the first phase. Entering the second phase now, the hospital will have a capacity of 4,000 beds, including a private area specifically designated for Omicron cases.

Although the Omicron variant has yet to be detected locally, Vietnam needs to develop scenarios to cope with the strain, according to Dr. Nguyen Trong Hao, director of the HCM City Dermatology Hospital.

The hospital includes an isolation area for imported cases who are at a high risk of Omicron infections, with the primary aim of preventing the spread of the new variant among the local community, Dr. Hao notes.

Doctors assigned to the field hospital have acquired a wealth of experience in taking care of F0 cases in critical condition in the first phase.

As there is little information about the Omicron variant, all medical workers are aware of their duties in the fight against the lethal virus, said doctor Tran Ngoc Hoang Dung from the resuscitation faculty of the Dermatology Hospital.
