Folk paintings come alive at Bac Ninh exhibition

The exhibition at the Dong Ho Folk Painting Conservation Centre features over 100 works from four folk painting genres, displayed in themed sections.

Each Vietnamese folk painting genre has its own distinct style. Dong Ho paintings are simple and gentle, reflecting the charm of Kinh Bac; Hang Trong paintings are elegant, reminiscent of Thang Long (now Hanoi); Kim Hoang paintings from the northern delta are vibrant; and Lang Sinh paintings are rich in religious symbolism, representing the ancient capital of Hue. Despite their differences, all celebrate folk creativity and Vietnam’s unique cultural identity.

According to Nguyen Van Dap, deputy director of Bac Ninh’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vietnamese folk paintings connect the intellect, soul, and spiritual life of the people over many generations.

Despite the vicissitudes of history, folk paintings have retained their vibrant colors, reflecting the social life, customs, beliefs, and aspirations of the Vietnamese people, Dap shares.

The exhibition highlights the value of Vietnam’s cultural heritage, linking preservation with sustainable tourism and promoting cultural exchange between regions. It also raises awareness among the public, especially younger generations, about the importance of traditional cultural heritage.
