On March 21, nearly 3,000 elderly participants gather in Hanoi for a record-setting paper fan dance, marking the largest event of its kind in Vietnam.

As part of activities marking the 80th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day, the Tai Chi fan dance festival is organized by the Hanoi Senior Outdoor Health Association, with support from Vietnamese dairy brand Vinamilk.

The festival supports the development of outdoor health associations for middle-aged and elderly people across the city, encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle.

The event also aims to bring fun, healthy and beneficial recreational activities for the elderly in Hanoi.

Residents of Hanoi can experience a grand mass dance performance accompanied by the song “Việt Nam trên đường chúng ta đi” (“Vietnam on Our Journey”).

The graceful yet determined movements, combined with the enthusiastic spirit of participants aged 70–80, create a vibrant atmosphere, spreading positive energy and promoting an active lifestyle.

According to Nguyen Thi Hao, head of the Hanoi Senior Outdoor Health Association, the organisation now has a network of 30 branches and over 8,000 members across more than 200 clubs. It also provides tailored exercise programmes to enhance seniors’ health and reduce the risk of diseases.
