As of May 7, seats on public transport vehicles have been arranged in a way that meets COVID-19 guidelines. Accordingly. the occupancy rate should not exceed 50% of the seats available and passengers are required to sit apart from each other. In fact due to the complex nature of the SARS-CoV-2 virus few people have chosen to take bus these days for safety reasons. Hanoi Bus drivers say the occupancy rate is less than the 50% authorized rate. The number of bus passengers has fallen dramatically compared to the pre-outbreak period, they outcry. Many buses depart the station with only four or five passengers throughout the journey. Some buses sometimes have only one or two passengers. Passengers on board are required to don a face mask and give a telephone number, just in case of contact tracing. Buses hitting the road can be seen transporting very few people on board. Travelling by bus is an optimal choice for local residents during the hot weather due to a reasonably priced ticket. “I’m a regular bus traveler. It’s comfortable to travel by air-conditioned bus during hot days. But I have to restrict travelling due to COVID-19 fears these days,” says a person waiting for a bus. VOV
