Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s Vietnam visit in the spotlight

Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah arrives in Hanoi on November 30, beginning a three-day State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Luong Cuong.

During his meeting with Party General Secretary To Lam upon arrival, the two leaders agree to strengthen political trust; promote and facilitate trade and investment activities; and tap the cooperation potential between the two countries in fields such as agriculture, fisheries, Halal industries, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

President Luong Cuong on November 1 hosts a welcoming ceremony for the Sultan, and they then hold high-level talks on future cooperation orientations.

During their talks, President Luong Cuong and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah agree to enhance the effectiveness of the Comprehensive Partnership. Brunei will continue to support Vietnamese companies in providing oil and gas services and encourage Bruneian corporations to invest in oil and gas exploration and exploitation in Vietnam. The Sultan of Brunei congratulates Vietnam on successfully hosting the Hanoi Convention signing ceremony and agrees to ratify the Convention soon, contributing to its entry into force.

The Sultan meets with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh who proposes that the two countries continue to effectively implement the 2023-2027 Action Programme for the Vietnam-Brunei Comprehensive Partnership. Both sides vow to strengthen cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, energy, fisheries exploitation, anti-IUU fishing, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Sultan also meets with National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man who affirms that Vietnam always values its friendship and cooperation with Brunei in particular, and with ASEAN countries in general. In the context of a region and world experiencing many complex developments, both sides agree on the need to continue close coordination to strengthen ASEAN’s solidarity and central role. Chairman Man also agrees to enhance cooperation between the two parliaments in the coming period, particularly in exchanging legislative and oversight experiences.

Speaking at a State banquet hosted by President Luong Cuong, the Sultan of Brunei affirms that Vietnam has emerged as one of the region’s rising economies and a respected member of the ASEAN community. He expresses confidence that Vietnam will continue to achieve even greater accomplishments on its path toward becoming a prosperous and sustainable country by 2045.

During a fact-finding trip to the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel), Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah praises the Group’s technological autonomy and innovation. Meanwhile, Viettel expresses its desire to promote cooperation with Brunei in the fields of high-tech industry, cybersecurity, national digital transformation, and new telecommunications technologies.
