Vietnam Airlines earns US$1.62 bln in six months
The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines earned a combined revenue of VND36 trillion (US$1.62 billion) in the first half of this year, accounting for 72% of the set target.
General Director of Vietnam Airlines Duong Tri Thanh said the company enjoyed a growth of 37% at home and 17% on the international market in the first six months of this year.
In the reviewed period, the company successfully conducted over 70,300 safe flights, a year on year increase of 10.7% and delivered 9.65 million passengers, up 15.5% compared to the same period last year. Of which, international flights rose 6.9% and domestic flights increased 21.1% against the same period last year.
However, the carrier still has to face the difficulties and challenges from the slowdown of the world’s economy, including social disturbance and rising terror instances in European countries.
Besides those issues, rapid growth in the domestic aviation sector, overloaded aviation infrastructure, and high competition among other carriers have caused pressure on the national flag carrier.
The company will continue bilateral and multilateral cooperation among other airlines both home and abroad, especially with its strategic partners such as Japan’s All Nippon Airways (ANA) and the SkyTeam Airline Alliance to meet increasing customer demand.
Vietnam Airlines has been certified as a four-star airline by Skytrax, the world’s leading airline and airport rating organisation, in a ceremony at the World Airline Awards held at Farnborough Airshow in early July this year.
The company has also been recognized as one of the world’s three “excellent progress airlines”.
