US imposes anti-dumping duties on Vietnamese tra fish

(VOV) - The US Department of Commerce has issued preliminary results of the anti-dumping duty administrative review (POR 11) which decided the tax rates imposed on Vietnamese tra fish fillets imported to the country between August 1, 2013 and July 31, 2014.

Accordingly, two compulsory units – Hung Vuong and Thuan An companies will be levied US$0.36 per kilo and US$0.84 per kilo, respectively, while 16 other exporters will be taxed US$0.6 per kilo.

Truong Dinh Hoe, general secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), said such high tax rates might hinder Vietnamese tra fish exporters to ship their products to the US.

However, he said, it is only DOC’s preliminary decision and Vietnamese businesses still have time to study and respond in order to change the results.

VASEP reported that Vietnam earned US$891 million from tra fish exports during the first 7 months of this year, down 8.3% against the corresponding period last year. However, exports to the US increased slightly by 2.1% to US$184.5 million.
