The sector is expected to generate 54,000 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect jobs.
By 2030, the farming areas will hit 40,000ha of ponds and 1.8 million cubic metres of cages with output of 400,000 tons, 45-50% of which will be for exports. All breeding areas will follow Vietnamese Good Agricultural Practices (VietGap) or other standards of imported countries.
Seven regions will be zoned for tilapia production, namely northern mountainous and midland, northern delta, north-central, south-central, central highlands, south and south-west regions.
The master plan proposes the application of advanced and environmentally friendly technologies in production to improve the quality, productivity and value of products and to ensure food hygiene and safety.
It encouraged businesses to build brand names of Vietnamese tilapia products with clear geographical indication and origin of product to meet customers’ taste and trust.
The MARD will evaluate market and customer demands and accelerate trade promotion activities at key imported market through fairs, exhibitions and advertisement on the Internet.
