Shrimp farmers achieve four-star BAP status

(VOV) - Twelve Vietnamese shrimp farmers have been certified as having achieved four-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) status for shrimp or any species, the Global Aquaculture Alliance has announced.

Four-star BAP status denotes that the processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills from which a group sources are BAP certified. It is the highest such achievement in the BAP program.

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) also unveiled that Vietnamese prawn farmers have become the number provider to Japan and the third and fourth largest shrimp exporters to the US and EU markets.

According to VASEP, Vietnam should make use of its BAP status to transform itself into a world leader in the production of large tiger prawns with a reputation as a stable source of product, good processing capability, credibility and quality.
