Opportunities for Vietnam fruit to enter Czech Republic

VOV.VN - The first Vietnam Fruit Day was held at Makro Supermarket in Prague on July 11 to promote agricultural products and seek consumption market in the future.

Vietnam is famous for many kinds of tropical fruit like lychee, longan, mango, banana, papaya, dragon fruit, rambutan and grapefruit. Many of these fruits have been exported to different countries, but, they have not hit Czech supermarket shelves yet.

The event, held by the Vietnam Embassy in the Czech Republic, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and Makro Group, aims to introduce Vietnam fruits to Czech people and help them further penetrate European markets, said organizers.

Customers at Makro Supermarket had a chance to taste and buy 19 different kinds of fruits. They found that Vietnam fruits are more delicious than the same products imported from other countries.

MoIT Deputy Minister HoThi Kim Thoa said she believes that Vietnam fruits will gain a foothold on the Czech market thanks to their higher quality and good taste.

A representative of Makro group, Jan Jak said several years ago, Vietnam culinary arts were new to the Czech people, but now Vietnam foods have gained a foothold in the market.

Tran HiepThuong from the Vietnam Embassy said domestic fruit have already been present in many world countries, including demanding markets like Australia, the US and Japan. This is an advantage for them to penetrate the EU market. He suggested importers, distributors and suppliers to closely coordinate to help reduce storage and transportation costs.

Ambassador to the Czech Republic Truong Manh Son said the Vietnam Fruit Day was the first step to help Vietnam fruit enter the market of over 10 million customers. He hoped that domestic fruit will soon hit supermarket shelves in the Czech Republic and other EU markets.
