Industrial production index up 9% in August

The industrial production index in August grew 9% from the same period last year, according to the General Statistics Office under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
Accordingly, the electricity and processing/ manufacturing sectors saw their production increasing by 11.1% and 10.6%, respectively, followed by water supply and waste treatment industry at 9.4%. A modest rise of 2.8% was seen in the mining industry.
The northern province of Thai Nguyen posted an impressive industrial production index with gain exceeding 193% while many industrial hubs nationwide also saw good growth such as Hanoi (7.4%), Hai Duong (10%), Binh Duong (8.6%), Dong Nai (8%) and Ho Chi Minh City (6.8%).
August also saw the birth of 9,301 enterprises across Vietnam with registered capital reaching VND55.2 trillion (US$2.46 billion) and the temporary and permanent closure of 7,595 businesses.
