Agricultural food fair a hit in Singapore

(VOV) - Vietnam is rolling out a large number of agricultural foods in an exhibition at Singapore’s largest supermarket chain – NTU FairPrice – in a bid to win over consumers and boost exports.

The two-week event, June 4-17, is showcasing more than 50 Vietnamese products including many new items from last year such as frozen fish fillets, mangoes and coconuts.

CEO of FairPrice Seah Kian Peng said he has enjoyed the food so much that he has returned to the event numerous times and his favourites are Vietnamese pho and coffee.

The goal of FairPrice is to introduce Vietnam's quality products to Singaporean consumers Peng said, adding that the program aims to benefit all sides— the manufacturer, distributors, consumers and FairPrice.

Vietnam Ambassador to Singapore Nguyen Tien Minh in turn said this year’s programme shows Vietnam has stepped up its effort to ship products to the demanding Singaporean market.

Vietnam Trade Counsellor to Singapore Nguyen Viet Chi echoed Minh’s view and said that Singapore is a highly lucrative market for Vietnam products as it needs to import around US$7.4 billion of agriculture-forestry and marine products annually.

According to the latest statistics, the bilateral trade value between Vietnam and Singapore grew 12% to hit US$2.9 billion last year.

Early this year, Vietnam became one of top ten trade partners of Singapore.
