Hai Duong okays VND1 trillion waste-to-energy plant

The People’s Committee of the northern province of Hai Duong recently granted approval for the investment of a waste-to-electricity plant in Luong Dien commune, Cam Giang district.

The project will be developed by a joint venture between Chinese United Expert Investments Ltd and Au Viet Resource and Environment JSC at a total investment of more than VND1 trillion (US$44 million) in an area of 10 hectares.

Upon completion, the plant, which is equipped with European advanced technologies, will treat 250 tonnes of unsorted daily waste per day and night in the first phase (2020) and 500 tonnes in the second phase (beyond 2020).

It will produce 9-10 megawatts of electricity and other side products such as unbaked brick and other building materials from ash.

Local authority required the investor to complete relevant procedures in land and environment protection. In the next 18 months, the investor is required to build plant and support facilities as well as install equipment and machines to begin trial operation.

The plant should be put into operation after 24 months since the province approved the investment proposal.
