Boosting exports to EU via Czech Republic

(VOV) - The Transport & Brokerage Centre for Vietnamese exports in the Czech Republic is expected to begin operation in early 2015, opening up an opportunity for Vietnamese goods to penetrate the EU market.

According to the European Market Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), last July saw Vietnam’s exports to the Czech Republic reaching US$16 billion, up 32.8 percent against the same month last year to bring its total export earnings from the market to US$94 million.

Vietnam has been listed among 12 major markets for trade exchange in the 2011-2015 period.

The European Market Department recently mentioned a paradoxical fact that the majority of the Vietnamese community was using and distributing goods for China as Vietnamese goods were finding themselves in a more difficult position for lack of information.

That’s why the Czech Republic’s Retail and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) Association has co-ordinated with the Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises to establish the Transport and Brokerage Centre for Vietnamese exports in Prague.

In the initial stage, the centre will be built on an area of around 300 square metres with 8 eight pavilions for businesses representing Vietnam’s eight export industries.

Major items exported to the Czech Republic and the EU market will include seafood, fruits and vegetables, coffee, tea, canned food, gemstones, and handicraft products.

By 2017, the centre will be financially independent in business activity to become a legal body representing Vietnam in the Czech Republic in particular and the EU in general.
