Work starts on US$1b Hanoi industrial park

The 600-ha zone, designed by Japan’s Nippon-Koei Group, aims to attract investment into support industries in such areas as mechanism and automation, electronics, chemical substances, footwear and garments and textiles.

The park will include trade centres, banks and schools and provide logistical and healthcare services.

The developers said they expected to draw about 200 investors and generate 30,000 jobs for residents in Hanoi and neighbouring provinces.

“The country’s support industries have rich potential, but we still lack the necessary policies and infrastructure to foster their development,” said Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.

“This industrial zone will help Hanoi materialise its intention to expand support industries and also help the country boost key industries.”

Hai urged ministries, sectors and local authorities to help investors rapidly clear ground so the project, which would drive the development of an urban area in Phu Xuyen, could reach completion soon.

Chairman of the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee, Nguyen The Thao, said the city hoped to bring production enterprises to outlying areas, so Hanssip would be an attractive destination for many companies currently operating in the inner city.

Investors in the zone would receive support related to finances, recruitment, labour training and technology exchange, Thao said.

The three developers signed a strategic cooperation agreement to build the industrial park on March 19, with sponsorship from the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
