Vinh Tan 2 solar power plant begins commercial operation

Covering a total area of 49 hectares, the plant is directly connected to the 110 kV Tuy Phong-Ninh Phuoc transmission line through a 22/110kV transformer station. With a total investment capital of VND986 billion, the facility is expected to generate an addition 68.4 million kWh of power to the national grid.

Duong Quang Thanh, Chairman of the Members Council under the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), said that 79 solar power plants with a combined capacity of 4,312MW have been successfully connected to the national power grid so far.

He noted that between 10 to 12 additional solar power projects will be connected to the grid as of June 30.

The Vinh Tan 2 solar power plant coming into operation is of great significance in dealing with the country’s power shortage, especially shortages that affect the southern region, he said.

Nguyen Ngoc Hai, Chairman of the Binh Thuan People’s Committee, said apart from adding to the nation’s economic efficiency, the construction of the Vinh Tan 2 solar power plant also aims to stabilise the lives of residents living in areas close to the plant by helping them move to new places with better conditions, thus ensuring social security for the locality.
