VinFast hosts EV factory groundbreaking ceremony in US
VOV.VN - VinFast, the subsidiary automaker of Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on July 28 for its electric vehicle (EV) plant in North Carolina in the United States.
VinFast's first plant in the US has a design capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year, with the ultimate aim of manufacturing and assembling three lines of EVs specifically for the domestic market.
The factory boasts a total investment of US$2 billion in the first phase and will produce three EVs, namely the VF 7, VF 8, and VF 9, for the North American market during the phase.
A representative of the company stated that the supply source of components for production will be prioritised for suppliers in the US, Vietnam, and several other countries in the region.
In addition, the expansion of production and scale will be considered by Vinfast according to the needs and market situation in the next stages. Clayco has been appointed by VinFast as the general contractor and construction management unit for the project.
Le Thi Thu Thuy, CEO of VinFast Auto, stated that the factory will create thousands of jobs whilst contributing to the development of North Carolina's economy, which will serve to enhance the company's strategic position in the North American market.
VinFast's electric vehicle factory project marks a step forward in terms of its strategy to expand into the US market, develop a global electric vehicle brand, whilst being self-sufficient in supplying in North America.
According to information given by VinFast, the site will be the first EV vehicle production facility in North Carolina, whilst also being the largest economic development project in the state so far.
Last year, VinFast was awarded a US$1.2 billion in incentive package from North Carolina specifically for the project, along with critical financial support from the City of Sanford, Chatham county, and the Golden Leaf Foundation.
