Vinamilk and Sojitz start work on beef breeding and processing complex

VOV.VN - A groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 8 in Tam Dao district, Vinh Phuc province, for a breeding and beef processing complex, a joint project between Vietnam Dairy Products JSC (Vinamilk) and Sojitz Corporation of Japan.

Vinabeef Tam Dao will be built on an area of 75.6ha with an initial investment of VND3 trillion in the first phase. It will comprise a farm capable of raising 10,000 cows and a beef processing plant with a design capacity of 10,000 tonnes a year.

The complex is expected to be put into operation in 2024.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Mai Kieu Lien, chairperson and CEO of the Vinamilk, confirmed that the project would serve as a typical example of the co-operation between Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises in the field of high-tech agriculture.

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien suggested that the administration of Vinh Phuc remove difficulties and obstacles which may arise during the implementation of the project, and create favourable conditions for investors to complete the project on schedule.

At the Vietnam - Japan investment promotion conference held in Tokyo on November 25, 2021, in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Vinamilk and its member company Vietnam Livestock Corporation JSC (Vilico) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japanese firm Sojitz Corporation and the Vinh Phuc People's Committee on the investment and development of a beef cattle project in Vinh Phuc.

The MoU establishes a joint venture for beef production-processing-distribution in Vietnam for export. Moving forward to the next phase of cooperation, the joint venture will develop other protein-based products with deep processing technology.
