Viettel teams up vs UAE’s tech giant to develop high-tech defence industry product

The Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group announced recently that it inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EDGE Group of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Dubai Airshow 2025 on the same day.

The document was signed by Major General Nguyen Dinh Chien, Viettel Vice President, and Omar Al Zaabi, President – Commercial at EDGE, with the signing witnessed by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defence, Sen. Lieut. Gen Hoang Xuan Chien.

Accordingly, the MoU creates a clear foundation for potential broad cooperation in high-tech defence industry products and advanced technology. The two sides will also cooperate in dual-use and civilian products and services in areas such as 5G telecommunications infrastructure, IT and telecom solutions, semiconductors, AI cameras, IoT devices, cybersecurity, logistics, and e-commerce.

The partnership includes the potential development of an original equipment manufacturing model in Vietnam for components and modules connected to EDGE product lines, targeting the UAE and other export markets.

Potential cooperation also cover opportunities in research, exchange and technology transfer, technological training cooperation.

The partnership will be conducted with the approval of relevant authorities and in compliance with the laws of each country as well as international regulations.

This event marks a strategic move by Viettel, towards exporting hi-tech “Make in Vietnam” products and researching and developing advanced defence and dual-use technologies.
