Viettel launches representative office in Singapore

Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group inaugurated its representative office in Singapore on February 4, marking an important step in the group’s international expansion.

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien, Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Phuoc Anh, along with representatives from Singapore’s Ministry of Defence, as well as local and international businesses operating in the country, attended the event.

Addressing the ceremony, Sen. Lieut. Gen. Chien noted that in recent years, the friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Singapore have continued to be strengthened and expanded, particularly in the fields of economy, defence-security, science-technology and digital transformation.

He said the opening of Viettel’s representative office in Singapore reflects the practical and effective development of bilateral relations, contributing to the implementation of cooperation commitments between the two countries and their defence ministries.

The Deputy Defence Minister expressed confidence that, as a global technology group with strong research and development capabilities, Viettel will effectively leverage Singapore’s dynamic, transparent and high-potential environment to promote cooperation in new-generation telecommunications, artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security, digital infrastructure, high-tech defence industries and digital solutions for sustainable development.

He affirmed that Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence will continue to support and create favourable conditions for Viettel to achieve breakthroughs, expand international cooperation based on equality and mutual benefit and respect for international law, aligning with the strategic interests of each country.

The officer called on the Singaporean Government, Ministry of Defence and relevant agencies to facilitate the operation of Viettel’s representative office, enabling it to serve as a bridge for technology, investment and innovation cooperation between the two countries. Singaporean technology firms, partners and research institutions were encouraged to strengthen substantive cooperation with Viettel, jointly tapping opportunities in areas of mutual strength such as new-generation telecommunications, AI, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure and high-tech industries.

At the ceremony, Viettel and its partners signed seven memoranda of understanding, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation towards substantive, sustainable and technologically advanced projects in Singapore, ASEAN, and globally.

Viettel’s official presence in Singapore is a milestone in its internationalisation process, reflecting its strategic vision, integration capacity and aspiration to bring Vietnamese technology deeper into the global market, while contributing to regional and global development.

Viettel is currently present in nine countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America, holding the leading telecommunications market share in seven of them. Apart from Singapore, the group also operates representative offices in Japan, the US, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates.
