Vietnamese seafood exports to US enjoy rebound
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s seafood exports to the United States saw a year-on-year rise of 24% to US$1.45 billion during the opening nine months of the year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Shrimp, pangasius, and tuna represent the three major products shipped to the US, accounting for 53%, 17%, and 15.6%, respectively, of total seafood exports to the demanding market.
Most notably, shrimp exports in September alone enjoyed a strong rebound, with turnover reaching US$97.6 million, representing a rise of 8% and prompting nine-month shrimp exports to the market to soar by 22% to US$775 million.
The US remains the largest export market for Vietnamese shrimp, making up 28% of the market share. Its import demand for shrimp is increasing remarkably thanks to its economic recovery and the approach of year-end holidays.
According to the US’ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the US imported a total of 89,407 tonnes of shrimp worth US$822.9 million throughout August, representing a rise of 8% in volume and 17% in value compared to August 2020.
During the reviewed period, tra fish (pangasius) exports to the US also surged by 43% to US$248 million, with frozen pangasius fillets coded HS 0304 being the major export product.
The US also became the largest consumer of Vietnamese tuna, spending US$226 million during the nine-month period, representing an annual rise of 8% and making up 43.5% of total tuna exports.
Elsewhere, Vietnamese crab exports to the US also picked up recently with export value recording US$34 million, up 68%.
