Vietnamese poultry eggs exported to Hong Kong after 4-year ban

The Hong Kong department in its July 31 telegram to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam announced the lifting of its ban on importing poultry eggs and poultry egg related products from Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai provinces of Vietnam.

Accordingly, from August 2023, businesses, farms and breeders in the aforementioned localities are able to officially export their poultry eggs and egg related products to Hong Kong.

However, the export shipments must be carefully inspected by the Department of Animal Health under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and be granted an export quarantine certificate in line with the form of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong issued a ban on importing Vietnamese poultry eggs and poultry egg related products from several south-eastern provinces of Vietnam four years ago.  

The Department of Animal Health and the localities immediately worked out plans on avian influenza prevention and control. They also cooperated closely with international organizations to monitor and promptly respond to avian influenza, build facilities safe from diseases, and introduce solutions to disease prevention and control in poultry.

The resumption of the export of Vietnamese poultry eggs and poultry egg products to Hong Kong is the result of efforts in conducting negotiations, and providing documents on the results of avian influenza prevention, control and surveillance in Vietnam, said the Department of Animal Health.

Hong Kong is the main export market for many products of the Vietnamese livestock industry. In addition to poultry egg products, Hong Kong is Vietnam’s largest frozen piggy pork export market. In the first six months of 2023, Vietnamese frozen piggy pork shipped to this territory rose 13.0% in volume and 43.6% in value over the same period in 2022.
