Vietnamese pangasius export prices rebound in Chinese market
VOV.VN - After a period of decline, Vietnamese pangasius export prices have regained growth momentum in the Chinese market, averaging US$2.13 per kilogram in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
VASEP statistics show in Q1, the average export price to China rose 1% year on year, with February recording the highest price in over a year, at US$2.13 per kilo or a year-on-year rise of 10%.

Pangasius exports to China during the first half of April totaled US$21 million, up 2% year on year. However, cumulative exports as of April 15 dipped 4% to US$126 million.
Despite this dip, China remained Vietnam’s largest pangasius importer in Q1, accounting for 23% of total export value. March alone saw the strongest performance, with exports reaching over US$38 million, a 4% increase compared to the same month last year.
Frozen pangasius fillet continues to be the most popular product in China, maintaining its position as a staple of Vietnam's exports to the market. In March, frozen pangasius fillet exports soared by 8% year on year to over US$21 million.
However, over the entire Q1, the export value of the product to this market fell by 5% to US$62 million, making up 59% of the total pangasius exports to China.
Other pangasius products like frozen whole fish, cut fish, fish bladders, and dried fish in Q1 brought in US$43 million, down 6% year on year, representing 41% of the total.
The VASEP revealed that the export of deeply processed pangasius products in Q1 skyrocketed by 89% to US$578,000, making up 1% of the total. Despite the small volume, this growth reflects rising demand for value-added products in China, hinting at untapped potential for expansion.
The VASEP believes that stable demand from China will continue to be the primary driver for Vietnamese pangasius exports moving forward.
While the industry faces challenges from global competition and tariff regulations, the ongoing recovery of the global economy and Vietnam’s engagement in free trade agreements are expected to bolster export prospects in the coming months.
