Vietnamese lychee favourite with global consumers
VOV.VN - The northern province of Hai Duong said on June 9 its lychee grown in Thanh Ha district has been exported to Japan, Australia, the United States and Europe this year.
Luong Thi Kiem, deputy director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, revealed that 2023 is the first year that about 20 tonnes of Thanh Ha lychees have been added to in-flight meals provided by national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines
The juicy fruit is the favourite with not only domestic but also global consumers, helping the fruit penetrate deep in the global market, said Kiem.
The lychee season 2023 in Hai Duong province is anticipated to yield approximately 60,000 tonnes, with more than half of its output reserved for export.
Notably, about 10% of the output will be shipped to high-end markets such as Japan, the UK, the United States and Australia, while the remainder will be exported to traditional markets such as China, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia.
Also on June 9, representatives of businesses and local authorities signed a cooperation agreement on the sale of lychees at a steady price.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also inked to introduce Thanh Ha lychees in local carriers’ in-flight menu.
