Vietnamese chicken products receive greenlight to enter Singapore
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in Singapore recently worked alongside the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) to promote the export of Vietnamese pork, chicken, and poultry egg products to the Singaporean market, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Statistics show Singapore only produces about 10% of its total domestic food demand, thereby relying on imports for the remaining 90%. Each year, Singapore imports approximately SGD1.2 billion worth of seafood, with Vietnam supplying around 9.7% of the total.
In addition to seafood, Singapore imports SGD 460 million worth of rice annually, of which Vietnam accounts for approximately 28.25%. It also buys more than SGD1.28 billion worth of meat products.
However, fresh pork, chicken, and poultry eggs from Vietnam have not yet been granted official approval for export to Singapore.
Last year, the Vietnamese trade office in Singapore helped delegations from the SFA to visit Vietnam in order to conduct surveys on the local livestock industry.
Through the field trip, SFA Director-General Damian Chan praised the scale of Vietnam’s livestock farming, as well as the technological advancements in slaughtering, meat processing, and egg production at Vietnamese companies such as QL, CP, MeatDeli, Ba Huan, and San Ha.
SFA revealed that by the end of February 2025, the agency will conduct virtual assessments of several Vietnamese processing facilities as part of Singapore’s regulatory approval process. If the online evaluations proceed smoothly, Vietnamese chicken products could receive official import approval from Singapore later this year.
Singapore has expressed its desire for close technical cooperation between SFA and Vietnamese authorities to ensure the evaluation process remains on schedule.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Singapore Tran Phuoc Anh affirmed his commitment to supporting and facilitating trade between Vietnam and Singapore. He emphasized that Vietnam produces high-quality agricultural products at competitive prices, particularly fruits, chicken, and eggs. Vietnam stands ready to collaborate with Singapore to strengthen food security, he said.
