Vietnamese aquatic products promoted at Seafood Expo North America
VOV.VN - A total of 17 Vietnamese enterprises are participating in the 2023 Seafood Expo North America, with the event opening on March 12 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Centre in Massachusetts in the United States.
This year’s three-day event featured the participation of hundreds of aquatic product and seafood exporters from various states across the US, as well as other countries such as Canada, Brazil, Japan, India, Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Spain, and Vietnam.
Vietnamese businesses are using the function as a platform to display the country’s key products, with tra fish and shrimp in particular impressing visitors.
Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, permanent representative of Vietnam to the UN, stressed that there is a bright outlook ahead for the export of Vietnamese seafood and aquatic products to the US, as well as to North America in general.
The participation of Vietnamese enterprises in North America’s largest seafood expo indicates that local products have gained a firm foothold in the selective market.
The US is the leading importer of Vietnamese seafood and aquatic products. Last year saw the export turnover to this market hit US$2.1 billion, accounting for 20% of the total value of the country’s seafood exports.
Shrimp and tra fish (pangasius) products contributed the most with more than 39%, reaching a figure of US$4.3 billion, in which pangasius accounted for nearly 23%, with US$2.44 billion.
Compared to 2021, shrimp and tra fish exports posted increases of 11% and 51%, while tuna and other seafood product exports fetched US$1 billion and US$3.2 billion, respectively.
