Vietnamese and Indonesian enterprises explore new avenues for cooperation

VOV.VN - A Vietnam-West Java business networking forum took place on October 17 in Bandung, Indonesia, bringing together dozens of Vietnamese companies and many potential partners from West Java, one of the country’s most dynamic localities in exports, processing industries, and investment attraction.

The event created plenty of opportunities for businesses from both sides to connect directly, explore highly competitive products, and discuss prospects for investment cooperation in West Java.

Speaking at the forum, Nguyen Phuc Nam, Deputy Director General of the Asia–Africa Market Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, emphasized that Indonesia is currently Vietnam’s second-largest trading partner in ASEAN, while Vietnam ranks as Indonesia’s fourth-largest partner within the bloc.

Indonesian firms have so far invested nearly US$700 million in Vietnam, mainly in food processing, energy, construction materials, logistics, and retail. Conversely, the Indonesian market has become increasingly attractive to Vietnamese businesses, particularly in information technology, consumer goods, and high-tech agriculture.

He highlighted the huge potential for cooperation between the two sides, while stating that creating more opportunities for enterprises to connect and seek partnerships is an effective approach, especially in fields of shared interest such as agriculture, digital economy, energy, high-tech industry, pharmaceuticals, and medical equipment.

The forum is expected to give fresh impetus to Vietnamese enterprises to expand cooperation and tap into Indonesia’s vast potential, thereby contributing to the shared goal of promoting exports, enhancing investment, and strengthening key production sectors within ASEAN.

Agung Subekti, Senior Manager at Hetzer Medical Indonesia, said his company joined the event to explore international expansion. “We currently supply products only domestically and hope this forum will help increase our sales and bring our brand to the global market,” he said. “Our main products include medical equipment such as face masks, stethoscopes, blood pressure monitors, and surgical caps.”

From Vietnam’s side, Mai Thi Kim Phung, representative of Huy Van Cashew Import–Export Company in southern Binh Phuoc province, said Indonesia is a promising market both for raw cashew supply and retail distribution, given its population of nearly 300 million. She expressed hope to find importers for roasted and fried cashew products and to seek suppliers of raw cashew nuts from Indonesia.

West Java is home to several of Indonesia’s major industries, including textiles, footwear, creative design, and fashion. The province currently accounts for about 23% of Indonesia’s total export value to Vietnam, with key products such as medical equipment, household goods, agro-aquatic products, processed food, dried fruits, and spices.
