Vietnam-US trade turnover tops US$22 billion in first two months
VOV.VN - The United States remains Vietnam’s largest export market, with two-way trade surpassing US$22 billion in the first two months of the year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Vietnamese exports to the US market dropped by 16.5% year on year to US$19.6 billion, while imports from the US surged by 17.4% to US$2.6 billion, according to official data.
Experts noted that Vietnamese key exports to the US still have significant growth potential this year, particularly in textiles and garments, handicrafts and wooden furniture, electronics, and agricultural products, which are expected to maintain their positive momentum.
Currently, Vietnam’s textile and garment exports to the US account for 40% of the industry’s total export turnover. The sector is forecast to generate US$25 billion in export revenue from the US market this year, fueled by rising demand for high-quality and eco-friendly products.
Similarly, handicrafts and wooden products are projected to bring in approximately US$10 billion in 2025, marking a more than 20% increase compared to 2024. The growing US consumer preference for sustainable and recycled furniture is expected to remain a key driver of the industry’s expansion.
In addition, high-tech exports, including electronic components and telecommunications equipment, are anticipated to make a significant contribution to overall export revenue. Experts predict a 15% to 18% increase in export value, driven by production expansion from major global corporations such as Samsung, Intel, and LG.
