Vietnam to unveil first FTA Index on local implementation
VOV.VN - The Ministry of Industry and Trade is scheduled to launch the FTA Index 2025 on August 18 to introduce the country's first nationwide assessment of how effectively provinces and centrally run cities implement free trade agreements (FTAs).
The index is designed to provide a comprehensive evaluation of FTA implementation across localities while serving as a reference for policymaking, government administration and business investment decisions.
Vietnam has so far signed and implemented 17 FTAs with major global partners. The implementation of these FTAs has yielded positive results, helping to boost the country’s trade performance and enable the country to play an increasingly important role in regional and global value chains.
Following a government directive, the Ministry of Industry and Trade developed the FTA Index 2025 to systematically measure local implementation of trade commitments nationwide.
The ministry expects the index to help government agencies monitor the effectiveness of FTA implementation and provide useful information for businesses, foreign investors and industry associations as they formulate investment and expansion strategies in Vietnam.
Throughout 2025, the ministry conducted a nationwide survey covering all provinces and centrally run cities, providing the data used to compile the inaugural FTA Index.
The announcement ceremony is expected to bring together more than 300 participants, including senior Party and government officials, leaders of Vietnam's 34 provinces and centrally run cities, representatives of business associations, domestic and foreign enterprises, diplomatic missions and international organisations.
