Vietnam to have first dialyzer manufacturing plant

With the fresh amount of investment, the Nipro Vietnam medical device plant project at SHTP will expand its capacity and will become the first plant in the country to manufacture dialyzers, or artificial kidneys used in dialysis machines.

The project is expected to churn out six million Japanese-standard dialyzers each year, which will be later raised to 48 million per year.

Nipro is expected to upgrade its plant at SHTP next month and put it into trial operation to pave the way for the production of dialyzers in 2023.

The Japanese manufacturer expects the project will help increase the supply of dialyzers in Vietnam and the world, as well as help reduce the product price, enable patients with kidney failure to use single-use dialyzers and thus improve their quality of life.

In late 2016, Nipro received an investment certificate for investing US$300 million in SHTP to develop the plant which covers nearly 10 hectares and produces medical device such as catheters, blood tubing sets, infusion sets, and other equipment to serve dialysis.

The expanded project is expected to leave positive impact on the city’s socioeconomic development and create job opportunities to over 4,000 people, as well as contribute to the city’s budget.

Aside from supplying the local market, the Nipro Vietnam plant will export its products to Japan and other Southeast Asian markets.

Headquartered in Japan’s Osaka City, Nipro is reportedly the second largest manufacturer of dialysis equipment.

The Japanese manufacturer has made significant investment in Vietnam with an aim to ramp up the production of dialysis equipment and meet the rising demand for dialysis in Vietnam and other markets.

Besides this, the low-cost workforce is another factor behind Nipro’s decision to choose Vietnam as one of its investment destinations.
