Vietnam, Singapore ramp up green energy cooperation
VOV.VN - Vietnam wishes to learn from Singapore's experience in green energy development to ensure energy security and meet the demand for consumption, production and economic development in the country.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An was speaking at a recent reception for Keith Tan who is expected to be appointed Deputy Ministe4r of Industry and Trade of Singapore.
An highly appreciated Singapore’s proposal regarding promoting energy cooperation between the two countries, and said both sides should continue to effectively implement the signed Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Cooperation moving forward.
He also acknowledged Singapore's interest in investing in Vietnam’s renewable energy and suggested Singaporean investors carefully examine Vietnamese regulations to ensure project success.
Keith Tan for his part said Singapore has shown keen interest in Vietnam’s energy projects after the Vietnamese Prime Minister recently approved the National Power Development Plan VIII in the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050.
Singapore wishes to cooperate with Vietnam in energy transition towards net zero emissions commitments, as well as importing electricity from Vietnam, he said.
Keith on this occasion invited a delegation of Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade to attend the Singapore International Energy Week in October 2023.
According to statistics from the Asia-Africa Market Department, Singapore is Vietnam’s fifth largest trading partner in ASEAN and the 11th largest in the world.
Singapore is also the second largest foreign investor in Vietnam, with 13 Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP) operating in nine localities across the country.
