Vietnam ships 158 million mobile phones abroad over nine months
VOV.VN - Vietnam exported a total of 158 million mobile phones to several major export markets across the world, including the EU and the US during the past nine months, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
September alone witnessed the country produce 19 million mobile phones, or 100,000 devices more than the previous month.
Despite phone output declining by 5.8% year on year, the output of mobile phone components witnessed an impressive increase of 17.3%.
Processing industrial products in the reviewed period continued to make an important contribution to the overall export growth with turnover reaching an estimated US$243 billion, representing a rise of 17.4% year on year and accounting for 86% of the total export turnover.
Of the figure, phone exports of all kinds and components inched up 10.7%, while exports of computers, electronic products and components rose by 13.3%. Most notably, exports of cameras, camcorders and accessories edged up by 38.9%.
Last year saw the domestic phone production output reach 233.7 million units, up 7.6% from the previous year.
Furthermore, the production value of phone components reached VND580,800 billion, up 29.5% compared to 2020’s corresponding period.
Data compiled by the Counterpoint Research revealed that the total number of global smartphone sold globally last year amounted to 1.39 billion, of which nearly 17% were produced in Vietnam.
At a recent seminar to discuss shifts in investment, think tanks highlighted the bright prospects ahead for FDI attraction in the local electronics industry as Vietnam becomes a prime destination for the world’s leading electronics manufacturers.
